About
Shel Prince
Shel Prince is a bold bucket of wildflowers filled with new songs, powerful vocals and a good pair of boots. Her songs share insight on human connection, love, loss and a good adventure. Often seen playing around the world on her travels, Shel won’t stop playing until her audience is singing, clapping or dancing along. With a setlist full of originals, Shel is a powerhouse that will be seen in Times Square. She currently plays with her five piece band based on Vancouver Island.
Releasing her first recorded single in January, 2023 ‘I MISS YOU’ captured people’s hearts and has been heard around the world. Shel and her band are currently working towards releasing her first EP in 2026.
Josh Irlam
A lover of music and weird sounds, Josh was inspired to become guitar-obsessed when he realized music is one of the only hobbies you can spend all of your time on and not have people think you’re weird.
A man of many persuasions, he likes to go play music in the woods because no one can hear you make up really strange songs and you can sing as loud and bad as you want.
Josh and Shel have been playing togerther for years, and have busked all over the world. He was very happy to get the band together, as now he doesn’t have to try and play bass, rhythm and melody all by himself. He is also of the opinion you can’t have too many instruments, and loves to scour secondhand stores for old, clearly hauntedm instruments.
Away from his wooden boxes and strings, Josh likes to read schlocky old sci-fi books, cook and eat and eat anything new, and have a nap in the sun somewhere.
Connor McTavish
Inspired at a young age by a line in “The Musical Life of Gustav Mole,” Connor decided that the cello was the best instrument to fulfill the childhood rule of picking one. Since then, he has remained in his four-stringed lane and chosen bass. Mostly because the bass is so much cooler than the guitar, and the other two strings are scary.
The former lawn care technician, now mechanical engineer, loves long walks on the beach, trees, surfing, and breathing underwater via tubes and a tank. If you see him in the wild, ask him about the shark he saw. These interests brought him to the wonderful metropolis of Nanaimo.
He met Shel at the Vault Open Mic, where he braved the 2 extra strings and sang “Her Majesty,” to which Shel responded (along the lines) with “who plays that at an open mic, I like that song.” A couple of years later, after pondering over a Costco hot dog, Connor asked Shel if she was looking for a bassist, cellist, and fish enthusiast to join the band. She said, “Sure,” and here we are.
Andrew Bryan
Classically trained as a violinist and keyboardist, Andrew brings a deep technical foundation to a musical life defined by curiosity and range. Over time, his playing has expanded beyond the concert hall into fiddle traditions and a wide spectrum of contemporary styles, blending precision with feel and spontaneity. He has toured internationally and built a strong reputation as a versatile studio musician, recording with a diverse roster of Canadian artists across many genres.
As a live performer, he has opened for a variety of acts including Matt Mays, Blue Rodeo, and The Proclaimers, earning a reputation for musicality, adaptability, and an unmistakable personal voice. When he’s not performing or recording, he can often be found experimenting with synthesizers.
Away from music, he spends much of his time in the forest and on the beach with his family and dog—recharging, listening, and finding inspiration in quieter rhythms that inevitably make their way back into his playing.
